Therapists
Hi! I'm Adam Spanier. I'm 55, and happily married with a young son, and we live about 10 minutes walk from the stations in West Hampstead. I'm delighted to join this directory of therapists, so that more people can discover what I do. I'm passionate about helping people to have a less tense and more pain-free life, and from that point on, empowering people to live their best lives. I'm so grateful to have found a therapy that has delivered these benefits to me in such a clear and profound way, that it's a no-brainer that I need to be offering this therapy to other people in need of less pain and tension, and wanting more empowerment.
I use the techniques of Critical Alignment Yoga Therapy to help you identify and release areas of tension and holding in your body, including numb areas and hidden tension. From the outside it might look like you are doing restorative yoga on a bolster and other props. But your inner experience will be profound as you compassionately touch and meditate on these areas of pain, and learn how to switch them off, using specially designed exercises and breathing techniques. We will dialogue together while you explore this inner world, to help you process any emotions and thoughts that arise, so that this therapy becomes a fully-integrated whole-person journey that empowers you to trust your inner guidance and to heal yourself from the inside out. You will learn how to dismantle the underlying physical causes of your chronic tension and pain, and how to move towards a more pain-free and tension-free body. With regular sessions and regular home practice, you can expect to feel more relaxed, light, open and flexible, and with significantly enhanced core strength! What's not to like? Basically a happier body to live in! This level of freedom in the body creates a calmer, more open, present mind, so that you will be able to live in and interact with the world, whilst staying more fully in the present moment. Basically a happier life!
In a past life, I worked in Harrow-on-the-Hill and the City of London as a consulting actuary. But at age 30, I discovered yoga and conscious dance, and have ever-since been on an eclectic journey to try to heal my shadow sides. I've done two yoga teacher trainings, with the Sivananda Ashram in Kerala and also with Yoga Campus (formerly the Life Centre) in London, together with my more recent yoga therapy trainings in Moscow, held by senior teachers from the Critical Alignment Yoga and Therapy centre in Amsterdam. I've also qualified as a Life Coach and Orgasmic Meditation Teacher with OneTaste. I've explored nutrition extensively, including 13 years living as a vegan. I attempted to live solely on a Raw Food diet for several months, until it precipitated a full-on mental health crisis that took me several years to fully heal from. My wife and I lost our first child, Alex, a few days after he was born, and I have lost both of my parents, so I do have experience of living with deep loss. For many, many years my main therapeutic practice was 5 Rhythms dancing classes with Sue Rickards in Tufnell Park, and more recently I've been exploring Contact Improv and dances at the Temenos Dance Collective in Hackney, where you can find me most Friday nights! I discovered a Critical Alignment yoga strip lurking at the bottom of a yoga studio bookshelf in Harlem, near Amsterdam in the Netherlands in 2019, whilst my wife and I were on a honeymoon trip there, and I've well and truly gone down the rabbit hole with the Critical Alignment practice, including my therapist trainings in Moscow in 2019/2020, and countless hours of self-practice ever since, because finally after all the exhaustive and exhausting seeking, I knew in my bones that I'd found a profoundly powerful practice that was full of truth and healing for me.
