My name is David and I am an experienced accredited Humanistic Integrative Counsellor. Over the years I have helped a number of people who were struggling with life challenges overcoming their obstacles, feeling better about themselves, happier and more confident. Do you often feel like you don’t seem to be able to move on with things? Do you feel blocked, stuck or that life has become a tedious routine, and you have lost the lust for life? We are all unique and so are you, you may feel stuck not knowing what to do next or may be struggling with sad feelings or depression. Sometimes, stress at work can make you feel on edge taking the joy in life away. This can leave you feeling very anxious, and relationships can become difficult and toxic. I see you as the unique individual that you are, and I want to offer you a space for yourself in which to consider life challenges in a non-judgemental and safe environment. A place for you where you can talk frankly and confidently without fear with someone that is truly listening and will be there supporting you through the process. I strongly believe that a close and honest relationship with your counsellor or therapist is essential for your therapy to have a positive impact. Therapy is often mistakenly thought as a long-term process that last for many years, but this is not always the case and this needs to be considered individually.
My therapeutic approach to counselling is known as Humanistic Integrative, I felt very drawn to this modality because it recognises that one single approach to therapy might not always be suitable for all individuals. The Integrative approach is built with psychoanalytical, behavioral and humanistic modalities creating a unique way of understanding life experiences. In a therapy session with me I will be exploring with you how past experiences and current behaviours might be preventing you from building meaningful and long-lasting relationships. The impact of our past experiences can be identified by the patterns of behaviors that we show when we navigate our relationships in our everyday life leading to discontent, anxiety, depression, loneliness and can be very damaging to our sense of self and self-esteem. Therapy with me is an opportunity to explore together, in a mindful and collaborative way, your thoughts and feelings with a trained professional in a safe, supportive and confidential setting. It can help you recognise your own resources, gain a better insight into things, and clarify thoughts and feelings.
I hold a Post Graduate Advance Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling from CPPD Counselling School which is a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) member organisation. I am also a registered member of the BACP. I started my journey in mental health volunteering for a national charity providing support to individuals living with long-term health conditions. After a period of three years, I decided to start my studies to train as a therapist. During my training I had the opportunity to work with an organisation as a trainee counsellor providing mental health support to clients within the LGBTQ community. This gave me a valuable insight and understanding about identity and gender issues. In addition to my core training I am thoroughly committed to enhance my understanding of mental health issues with a keen interest in relationships, attachment, anxiety and depression. Additional training and ongoing development: Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling (2024) Understanding Learning Difficulties (2025) Attachment theory in practice (2023) Attachment Theory and Science (2023) Attachment from cradle to grave (2023) Anxious attachment (2023) Attachment, development of identity (2023) Attachment in Adults: How infant security affects adult relationships (2023) Emotional regulation (2022) Emotionally Focused Therapy for Individuals (2022) Mental Health Issues in Older Adults (2022) An introduction to club drugs and novel psychoactive substances (The Health Foundation) (2020) How to deliver counselling online (2020) Post Graduate Advance Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling (2020) Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling (2019) Certificate in Person Centre and Counselling Skills (2018) Mental health First Aid Course – by Charity MIND (2015) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (2019) Psychiatry, Psychopathology, Psychodynamics (2019) The Neuroscience of Attachment (2018) Working with Children and Young Adult (2018) Imago Relationship Therapy (2023)
