I have been working as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist for the last 17 years. I have worked across the NHS, Voluntary and the private sector. I am an accredited member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and a member of my graduate body; the Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling (FPC). As a psychodynamic therapist, I draw on all analytic therapies, including Freud, Jung, Winnicott and Melanie Klein. Through this, I enable clients to understand their true, deep-rooted feelings in order to resolve them. Therapy is a space to bring whatever comes to mind within a warm and safe environment.

https://yvonnecoughlanpsychotherapist.co.uk/more-about-me/ My approach is based on the understanding that difficult experiences in the past can continue to affect the way you feel and behave in the present. In the therapeutic relationship, we can start to explore and recognise the reasons why the things that make you unhappy seem to be repeating themselves. For example, if you live in fear that your manager will be critical of you this might reveal a pattern of difficulty in relationships, particularly with those in a position of authority. Perhaps this stems from growing up within a highly critical environment during your early stages of development. We would be able to look at how your life experiences have shaped the way you think, feel and behave. This will enable you to let go of past patterns of behavior, which are no longer helpful. Ensuring you gain the psychological freedom to perceive yourself, the world and your relationships in a new way, enabling you to enjoy your life and live it more fully.

I started my work as a psychotherapist with university students and young adults suffering from early trauma. I worked with these clients on a long-term basis ranging from several months to many years. Subsequent to my work in this area, I have gained extensive knowledge and experience of working with employees of all ages suffering from work-related stress and/or issues in their personal lives. I work with clients both in the UK and globally across various sectors and levels of the business. I offer short term and long- term therapy; Short term therapy involves focusing on one issue or concern, whilst longer-term therapy enables a client to look at a variety of issues.
