Hello. My name is Richard (he/him) and I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor. It can be a daunting and bewildering task to reach out for therapy or counselling. So, I offer a safe and welcoming space for you to see how the process feels with me. I will listen, enquire, and offer support and at times gentle challenge, as together we look to make sense of your feelings, experiences, and difficulties in life.

My approach is grounded in my training in relational Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy and influenced by research in neuroscience and developmental theory. Transactional Analysis (TA) is a psychological theory of personality and relationships that can help make sense of our patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It can aid the process of understanding our current and past relationships and ways of being in the world. I use TA to combine elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), when exploring troubling thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and relational psychotherapy to explore persistently painful patterns in life. Underpinning my approach is the TA philosophy that all people are of value and, given the right circumstances, can grow and make personal changes for the better.

I have a Clinical Diploma in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapeutic Counselling from the Metanoia Institute, London, and I am currently in advanced training to complete a master’s degree in Transactional Analysis psychotherapy. Before starting my private practice, I worked as a counsellor for two London mental health charities.
