I am a registered psychotherapist with a wide range of clinical experience. I am also a mother and a former lawyer. This has given me a trusted insight into navigating the demands of work, family and social connections. These competing challenges can cause us to suffer. I have come to realise that the symptoms of our suffering are often the body’s way of guiding us towards a healthier balanced life. I hope to support you as you uncover your inner wisdom. I very much look forward to meeting you, and to taking this journey together towards a more self-compassionate awareness of what it means to be you.
I am a relational therapist, which means I place you at the heart of our work together. Our relationship forms a consistent and reliable thread which I hope will help you to weave your journey back to yourself. Each session is tailored to your needs, and I will draw upon a wide variety of therapeutic techniques so that you might reach a better understanding and acceptance of yourself. These may include my use of: -Attachment-informed and psychodynamic therapy- looking together at the effects which your early relationships continue to have on your current life and relationships; -Gestalt therapy- helping you to become more aware of your thoughts, feelings and body sensations in each moment and how these are shaping your behaviours and relationships; -Transactional analysis- understanding your default styles of communication within your relationships and the unconscious ‘script’ which might be running your life; and -Transpersonal- exploring tensions between your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual being. This may include ‘parts-work’ and looking at your dreams. I firmly believe that the answers which you may be seeking are already inside you and I am here to help you discover where to look, with kindness, empathy and warmth. It will be such an honour to work alongside you in this way.
A warm welcome! Life can be challenging, and it is both important and brave in these moments to reach out for support. After all, "we heal in community, not in isolation" (Esther Perel). Carrying emotional distress can be exhausting. We might valiantly try to ignore, mask or project our uncomfortable emotions. We often find ourselves choosing between unhealthy coping mechanisms or opting out completely. This sense of unbalance may lead to feelings of anxiety and depression, guilt and shame, difficulty sleeping, and/or physical illness. There may even be a sense that the world is conspiring to let us down or a feeling of ‘working hard but getting nowhere’. “Therapy is a gift. It is a chance to finally be heard, understood and supported.” (Bessel van der Kolk) I believe this to be true. My feeling is that no matter what ails us, a huge sense of relief can be felt when we share our stories in a safe and confidential therapeutic space. The wisdom of attuned therapy can lead you back to a healthier and more self-accepting version of yourself.
