My name is Shivangi and I am an experienced fully accredited integrative psychotherapist. I hold an Advance diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling from UK and a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from India. I offer in person therapy in West London and also remotely via Zoom. Having arrived in the UK over a decade ago, I understand array of challenges that moving countries and cultures can bring, whether it is a new language, a change of career or even adjusting to the change in natural environment and weather. My special interest is in helping such individuals in navigating through these challenges.

My approach to therapy work is client centred and integrative. I believe in exploring and reflecting on issues together, in a safe, non-judgemental space where every emotion and feeling is allowed to surface. I believe that working through these emotions and feelings, by reflecting on experiences we are able to shift our perspectives and see things in different light. Working collaboratively with my clients, I strive to make therapy a healing, transformative experience. So even though the issues, experiences we explore might seem to stem from the past, the therapeutic work happens in the present. Generally, my therapeutic approach is informed by attachment theory where together with my clients I look into the primary and early attachments of clients and how those attachments might have impacted the clients in present. I draw from the wisdom of existential philosophy to understand the vast concepts of authenticity, life choices, limitations, death, life and I also employ practical methods of CBT or solution focused approach to help cope with day-to-day dealings of the client’s life. My previous qualification as a clinical psychologist also helps me to understand underlying clinical symptoms of the complex psychological conditions. Although talking therapy is exploration through talking, I also use the aid of different practical tools to help the client feel more oriented and grounded in the therapeutic work. Where appropriate, I use tools such as journaling, meditation, breathing techniques, exercises to be done in between the sessions to name a few. Through my therapeutic work, I encourage my clients to take a lead towards their own empowerment as I believe that each individual has the potential to make their lives better if provided the unconditional positive regard, empathy and a congruent attitude from the therapist.

In addition to being a psychotherapist , I am also a trained Indian classical dancer and wherever possible, I also try to bring in body movements in the therapeutic space to help realise the mind- body connections.
