Iliana Dekastroud

CBT and EMDR therapist
I am a BABCP-accredited CBT Therapist and EMDR Practitioner, with several years of experience working with adults across NHS and private settings. I offer therapy in English and Greek, and I work with people experiencing anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and other challenges that can leave them feeling overwhelmed or stuck. I believe that therapy is a space where you can speak openly about your experiences without fear of judgement, and I aim to meet that openness with care, respect, and genuine curiosity. My role is to help you better understand what you are going through, make sense of patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop ways of moving forward that feel meaningful and manageable for you.
My background
I grew up and completed my initial studies in Greece before moving to the UK in 2016 to continue my professional training and development. I completed a BSc in Psychology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, followed by an MSc in Clinical Neurodevelopmental Studies at King’s College London, where I developed a deeper understanding of how brain development, early experiences, and the environment influence emotional wellbeing. I later completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy at Royal Holloway, University of London. As my clinical experience developed, I became increasingly interested in the ways earlier life experiences can shape present-day difficulties, leading me to specialise further in trauma-focused therapy and complete EMDR training accredited by EMDR Europe and the EMDR Association UK & Ireland. I am also undertaking training in systemic and family therapy, which continues to broaden my understanding of people within the context of their relationships and wider lives.
I work in an integrative way, tailoring therapy to your individual needs rather than following a single fixed method. My core clinical training is in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). CBT provides a practical framework for understanding how thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and physical responses interact, and how small, achievable changes can begin to shift patterns that maintain difficulties. EMDR is a trauma-focused approach that can help process distressing experiences that continue to affect you in the present. Alongside these approaches, I draw on ACT, Compassion Focused Therapy, and systemic perspectives when helpful, particularly when exploring difficult emotions, self-criticism, or relationship patterns. Above all, I aim for therapy to feel collaborative, supportive, and paced according to your needs, so that we can focus on what matters most to you.
